The UN's climate agency, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) this week released a new online tool to assist companies and communities in planning for climate adaptation.

The new resource brings together climate resilience tips from the world's biggest firms, including Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Nestle and Starbucks. These companies are listed amongst 100 examples of adaptation efforts included in the new Adaptation Private Sector Initiative database on the UNFCCC website.

The database hosts details on how companies can generate profits, cost savings and prevent losses through investment in climate adaptation measures such as developing climate-friendly goods and services.

Christiana Figueres, UNFCCC executive secretary, commented:" By showcasing private sector adaptation success stories, we intend to help both communities and businesses become more climate resilient and put the benefits and business sense of adaptation firmly on the agenda of the private sector.

" Climate risks that affect communities around the world are always also business risks."
